The Gelato; A Design Story.
If you’ve been a reader since the time of the author published website, you know the logo it had at that time. It lacked minimalism flavour.
Old “the Gelato” logo.

The old logo.
The reason for choosing an ice cream as the logo is because it’s something that brings joy to everyone. But because the ice cream was too ice-creamy, we needed a new logo that reflected the name “99% Simplistic”.
We worked on this logo with my startup εmρhαsιζ . The design philosophy for this logo was “A logo that is 99% simplistic, on a medium that brings joy”
To make the logo 99% simplistic, the whole design was done using just two shapes, a triangle and a circle. The texture brought great detail to this design, so usage of the best texture for each part was essential.
The texture of the circle was taken from a carefully photographed white paint stroke on a canvas. The texture of the triangle comes from a detailed photograph of a matte tile, desaturated in post-processing.
The two objects were put together in a two-dimensional digital environment. 3 versions were made, each with a black background and a white background. In the end, it really reflects the design philosophy and of course the name of the blog.

The story Behind this blog.
This blog was originally hosted on the author published website, Navindu Silva.
The inspiration to a self-run blog on self-improvement was sparked from a YouTube documentary by filmmaker, Matt D’avella. It was about time management and when Matt was describing the benefits, he mentioned: “passion project”.
Navindu being an ex co-author and willing to give up on the messy lifestyle, began getting organized and took use of the remaining time. He started to write web articles as his passion project. He started off with articles about minimalism, mental clarity and workflows based on self-improvement.
Over a week it grew into a blog site under the publisher’s name. It was a new personal best for him. Data traffic from all parts of the world drew his encouragement further. Later he integrated the blog writing process with AI and for optimal correctness and time efficiency.
8 blogs later, he thought of switching to a new site with its own name and logo and that’s what you are reading itself.
